Insurgency

An insurgency is usually defined as a state of revolt against established authority. It is generally considered to be more organized and widespread than a cabal or an underground movement. The modern example used most often is the Iraq war, in which several insurgent groups are fighting the established government, however, an insurgency does not have to refer to armed revolt. The term is also used in political circles to describe dissent within a political party.
