Hell (from the Hebrew "sheol") is a Christian afterlife where the wicked are punished eternally for all the sins they perpetrated during their lifetime on Earth. The only way to avoid hell is to accept Jesus Christ as your personal lord and savior. Hell is not well described in the early texts of the bible, but the concept of Hell was embraced by church leaders as a way of scaring people into believing.
