Operation Joshua

Operation Joshua was a CIA sponsored mission to bring Jews from Sudan to Israel.

It began in 1985, and was organized by Vice President George H. W. Bush as a follow up to Operation Moses. The operation brought an additional 800 Jews back to Israel. However, the arranged a CIA-sponsored follow-up mission to Operation Moses. Operation Joshua brought an additional 800 Beta Israel from Sudan to Israel. In the next five years the transfer of Jews back to Israel stopped, and did not resume until the end of dictator Mengistu Haile Mariam's regime.
