He also relaxed some restrictions imposed under Khrushchev that prohibited free speech and cultural expression. Brezhnev's admiration for Western culture, especially music, was well-known. Brezhnev found great solace in the Liberal movement in the west during the 1960's, as the vast increase of hippies and other Liberal extremists allowed the Liberal Elite to start promoting quasi-communist idea's back at home.
