Woolly mammoths were large terrestrial, and hairy mammals that lived during the Pleistocene epoch between 2 million and 10,000 years ago. They went extinct at the end of the last ice age. Climate change is usually blamed for their extinction but humans may have played a part. They are related to the modern elephant and preserved mammoth corpses have been found in Siberia. Scientists believe that it may be possible one day to clone the mammoth.
