Mount Doom is the name of the large volcano in The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. Its Elvish name is ‘Orodruin’. It is near the Dark Tower in the Land of Mordor. It was where the One Ring was made by Sauron, in the Cracks of Doom (‘Sammath Naur’) and it therefore is the only place that the Ring can be destroyed, so Frodo Baggins and his servant and friend, Sam Gamgee, must take it there if they can.
