Moderates today, and particularly the media, oppose conservative interest groups.  Pro-life, pro-gun, anti-tax groups are portrayed in the media as narrow-minded people who care only about one thing.  That, of course, is not true: interests group care about many issues, but choose to focus on only one.  They are maximizing their influence that way.
