An instrument is a tool with a specific use in a particular domain (though generally more refined than simple mechanical work). As such, the term instrument can refer to a wide range of different items.
Types of instruments include musical instruments; analytical analytical instruments, used for measuring and analyzing certain properties; and legal instruments, formal documents confirming a legal status.
