Incitatus was consul of the Roman Empire in 41 AD, a high political position of much prestige. According to legend, he was unusual amongst consuls insofar as he was a horse, appointed by the emperor Caligula. After Caligula's assassination on January 24 that year, Incitatus was divested of office.
