The term Christian Domestic Discipline (CDD) is used as a qualifier for a marriage that follows Biblical standards by mutual consent.[1]
Roles
In a CDD marriage, the positions of husband and wife are clearly defined as the man being the loving authority and the woman being submissive to her husband. While the husband does have authority in the household, he has justify his actions and decisions before God.[1]
The husband acts as a loving guide and teacher to his wife, but he also has the authority to spank her as punishment, although this only happens rarely as it is usually a last measure.
Acceptance and Influence
The concept of a Christian Domestic Discipline marriage at first appears to be unusual in today's times, but it is practiced even today in many parts of the world.[1][2]
Christian Domestic Discipline is not Domestic Violence
A mistake made by many is to assume that CDD counts as domestic violence due to the spanking aspect. The main difference cited by people living in a CDD marriage is that violence is abuse while the submission of the wife is made out of love (as opposed to fear) and with mutual consent.[3]
Criticism of Christian Domestic Discipline
CDD has been criticized for jumping from the roles of husband and wife in obeying God's Word to the motivation behind Domestic Discipline. Others also pointed out that some use CDD as a "cover story" for a sexual fetish.
As a sort of middle ground between mutual consent and claims of Biblical standards demanding such a relationship, it has been suggested that CDD is only for those who feel comfortable in such a relationship and that the Bible should not be used to justify non-consensual acts.[4]
