Captain '''William Frederick Halsey''' (April 11, 1853 - June 11, 1920) was an officer in the [[United States Navy]]. Halsey graduated from the [[United States Naval Academy]] in 1872. He won medals for his service in the [[Spanish American War]], during which he commanded the [[USS Newark]], and in [[World War I]]. His son, [[William F. Halsey, Jr.]], was also a naval officer who commanded the Third Fleet in the [[Pacific Ocean|Pacific]] during [[World War II]].
