Metroid is a series of games made by Nintendo. The main character is Samus Aran. As a child she was orphaned and raised by a tribe of bird-like creatures called the Chozo, and grew up to be a bounty hunter. While earlier games in the series dealt with story-lines focusing on the eponymous creature called metroids, later games would focus on a corrupting substance called Phazon.
