Evolution also teaches that adaptations,. or traits, that are more likely to survive in an environment are passed down to offspring, allowing such traits to become more common. This can be observed in many cases, such as a baby animal inheriting traits of its parents. Suppose that certain configurations of nerves in the eye allowed for better eyesight. This animal would be more likely to survive because it would be able to see food and avoid predators better than other animals that could not see as well. The animal would survive to reproduce, and pass down its traits to the next generation.
