Legolas, son of King Thranduil, was an Elf from Mirkwood. He was initially sent to Rivendell to bring the news that Gollum had escaped from the Mirkwood elves' custody. Legolas joined the Fellowship of the Ring as its only Elven member. After the Breaking of the Fellowship, he went west with Aragorn and Gimli in search of the hobbits Meriadoc Brandybuck and Peregrin Took. He fought at the Battle of the Hornburg, accompanied Aragorn on the way though the Paths of the Dead, and fought in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields and the Battle of the Morannon.
