The 'received wisdom' of current psychiatric/mental health research suggests that Bipolar Disorder runs in families. Some practitioners suggest a genetic approach, as the problem runs in families. Bipolar disorder can often be controlled with medication. Episodes can sometimes be brought on by stressful experiences or physical illness.
