I'm thinking that this page would work better as an essay, rather than a mainspace article, as "most famous paintings" is purely and inherently a matter of opinion, necessarily influenced by education and experience.  That said, I must respectfully disagree with some of your selections.  Just off the the top of my head, I'd say that [http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/seurat/grande-jatte/seurat.grande-jatte.jpg this], [http://blog.lib.umn.edu/snackeru/greet/images/scream.jpg this], [http://nsm.uh.edu/~dgraur/Images/hopper.nighthawks.jpg this], [http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/37/WhistlersMother.jpeg this], and [http://www.gvjh.org/~artisland/2006_student_artist/Grimes_michelangelo/jpeg/handstouching.jpg this] are more instantly recognizable than, say, the van Dyck or the Gainsborough (among others).  I would further suggest that many of the paintings you've chosen aren't even the most well-known for a particular artist.  For example, Picasso's "Garçon à la pipe" is far less well known than, say, his "[http://www.artinthepicture.com/artists/Pablo_Picasso/guernica.jpeg Guernica]".--[[User:XavierJ|XavierJ]] 17:31, 16 October 2008 (EDT)

Great work

Great job, Joaquin. Can I make a suggestion? I have always thought of the Sistine Chapel ceiling paintings by Michael Angelo to be one of the greatest painting contributions. The moment God's hand give life to Adam is awesome and inspiring and is an iconic image of what we all believe in. --Carolyn 08:54, 19 September 2008 (EDT)

Most Famous?

I'm thinking that this page would work better as an essay, rather than a mainspace article, as "most famous paintings" is purely and inherently a matter of opinion, necessarily influenced by education and experience. That said, I must respectfully disagree with some of your selections. Just off the the top of my head, I'd say that this, this, this, this, and this are more instantly recognizable than, say, the van Dyck or the Gainsborough (among others). I would further suggest that many of the paintings you've chosen aren't even the most well-known for a particular artist. For example, Picasso's "Garçon à la pipe" is far less well known than, say, his "Guernica".--XavierJ 17:31, 16 October 2008 (EDT)
