This needs some clarification, but I'm drawing a blank on how to do so. Killing oneself is not always suicide. - Killing oneself is always suicide. According to Durkheim, a famous sociologist, he states that there are four different types of suicides. The example you mention above would be defined as altruistic suicide because it is killing oneself for the good of others.
