The Peabody Awards are an annual honor named after George Foster Peabody. The awards are administered for excellence in radio and television broadcasting and were first given out in 1941. Initially, the award was only merited in the field of radio but in 1948, television awards were introduced and in the 1990's a World Wide Web category was added.
The Peabody Award is regarded as the highest achievement in broadcast journalism and is significant as the first major honor to be given out for work in electronic media.[1]
