Charles Wesley (1707-1788) was the Englishman who wrote the Christmas carol, "Hark the Herald Angels Sing." He traveled to the colony of Georgia as secretary to its founder, James Oglethorpe, but returned after being disappointed in an attempt to minister to Indians.
Charles Wesley returned to England to preach in a way that began the Great Awakening Revival. He wrote:
"Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Glory to the new-born King, Peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled. Joyful all ye nations rise, Join the triumph of the skies; With th' angelic host proclaim, Christ is born in Bethlehem."
