Orval Hobart Mowrer (1907-1982) was a professor of psychology at the University of Illinois (1948-1975). He is remembered in part for his anti-modernist Christian-friendly views and his disappointment in the modernist movement he found in the mainline Presbyterian Church; see his book The Crisis in Psychiatry and Religion (1961).
Professor Mowrer believed that modern psychology is based on false conclusions made by Freud (e.g., Darwian assumptions) and that mainline Christian churches became sick—unable to aid those in need—when they adopted many of these same views.[1]
