An unintended pregnancy is a result of having sex for reasons other than a desire to procreate, the outcome being a child has been conceived.

Abortion promoters tend to sympathise with women who regard carrying a child to term as the undesirable and unhappy outcome of an unintended pregnancy.

Pro-life advocates are more likely to recognise the new life created as a gift from God rather than a punishment even if its conception was unintentional.

Social assistance

Abortion is certainly not the only means of dealing with an unintended pregnancy. There are plenty of social programs that can assist those overwhelmed by pregnancy.

Other possible choices include:

  1. The mother may choose to marry the father and raise the child.
  2. The mother may choose to raise the child by herself or with assistance from other family members.
  3. The child may be given up for adoption.
