==Stimulus Funds==
Sanford made national headlines when he rejected a portion of the 2009 recovery act. This has drawn the ire of Democrats and they have mounted a TV campaign against his move. Governor Sanford said '''"When one is in a hole, the first order of business is to stop digging."''' Spoken like a true fiscal conservative. He rightly refuses to expand welfare and unemployment because the stimulus forces the states to keep expanding coverage even when the stimulus money is no longer available. Other states such as [[Texas]] and [[Louisiana]] have adopted the same stance. The S.C. governor wants to use some stimulus funds to pay down debt instead. Chief decision maker Obama feels the federal government knows best how to spend money, says no to Mark. <ref>[http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/03/10/sc-gov-wants-to-use-some-stimulus-funds-to-pay-down-debt/ S.C. gov wants to use some stimulus funds to pay down debt] CNN, March 10, 2009</ref>
