Pete Stark is a liberal Democrat representative from California. He is also noted for being Congress' first admitted atheist. [1] He received a $1000 prize from the Secular Coalition for America for the highest level atheist currently holding elected public office in the United States. [2] He proclaims to be "a Unitarian who does not believe in a Supreme Being."

He has come under scrutiny recently for making a disparaging comment about President George W. Bush, saying that he was sending troops into Iraq to have their heads blown off for his amusement. Stark has since apologized for his comments.
