Citizen Kane is a 1941 movie directed by Orson Welles. Many critics have named it as the greatest movie of all time. It was also voted #1 on the American Film Institute's list of the hundred best American movies ever made.[1]
Plot
The protagonist, Charles Foster Kane, is depicted as a power hungry sociopath who ends the film alone in a hell of his own making.
Media Backlash
Kane was modeled after Progressive media mogul William Randolph Hearst, who was enraged by the negative portrayal of his mistress, Marion Davies. As a result, he used his influence in order to force RKO Pictures to not release the film in theaters. The career of Orson Welles never recovered from Hearst's campaign.
