The guitar is a stringed musical instrument which is played with the fingers or a plastic pick. Most guitars have six strings. Acoustic guitars are made of wood, and produce sound based on the acoustics of their chamber. Electric guitars do not have such a chamber, and are typically used with an amplifier, except in the case of a semi-hollowed body electric guitar can function as both an electric and acoustic.

The guitar's ability to play both chords and melodies make it a versatile instrument, and the guitar is found in, among others, blues, rock, jazz, country, flamenco and classical styles.
