An insulator is a substance that does not conduct electricity very well.[1] Glass, porcelain, and plastics are examples of insulators.

An insulator also may refer to a material which does not conduct heat very well. This is a thermal insulator, such as hotpads for kitchen use, or home insulation to avoid heat loss during winter.
