Herbie Hancock (1940 - ) is a jazz pianist who rose to prominence in the 1960s as a member of Miles Davis's quintet. As well as his important contribution to jazz, he has also dabbled in more popular forms of music, scoring a pop hit in the mid-1980s with a breakdance instrumental entitled "Rockit".
