Great Northern War

The Great Northern War was a conflict between the "Northern Alliance"—Russia, Denmark, Norway, Lithuania, Poland and Saxony—and Sweden for supremacy in the Baltic Sea. Russia's ascension to becoming a respected and feared European power and Sweden's defeat, in which it lost the majority of its colonies and its respect as an European power, are results that came from it.

The death toll of the Sweden is about 25,000 in combat and 175,000 in other ways; among the Northern Alliance 120,000 were combat casualties and many more perished from such as famine.
