Elihu Root (February 15, 1845 – February 7, 1937) served as United States Secretary of War from 1899-1905, and United States Secretary of State from 1905-1909. He also served as U.S. Senator from New York from 1909-1915. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1912.
