The Vast Right-wing Conspiracy is a concept illuminated by then First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton on January 27, 1998.[1] Originally, the "conspiracy" was allegedly a coalition of right-wing financiers, journalists, and politicians, funded by Richard Mellon Scaife, who colluded in an effort to inhibit the ability of her husband, President Bill Clinton, to govern effectively. The "conspiracy" concept has evolved in meaning to include any concerted efforts to inhibit Democratic or progressive politics.
The validity of the "conspiracy" remains a matter of some debate. Indeed, the term has been embraced by some on the right as a means of mocking the left in general and Senator Clinton in specific. [2] An actual Vast Right-wing Conspiracy is as unlikely as an actual homosexual agenda.
