Gothenburg (Swedish: Göteborg) is the second largest city in Sweden located in the southwest. Gothenburg was founded in the 17th century by the Swedish king Gustav II Adolf who apparently pointed at a random spot on the ground and said "Här skall staden ligga!", which in English would be something like "The city shall be situated here!", and at that exact spot Gothenburg was built. It is known for shipbuilding and motor vehicle manufacture - Volvo is based in Gothenburg.
The city has (as of September 2009) 506,083 inhabitants[1].
