- The bottom line here is that the Tories of colonial America during the late 18th century - not the Tories of Canada or Britain - were supporters of King George and the British government. They were the ones who demanded more government control over the lives of the colonists, and when war broke out some joined the British army to suppress the rebels, while others fled to Canada. To call these people conservative when their behavior matches to a great extent the liberals of today is akin to slapping them in the face. Karajou 17:49, 4 March 2010 (EST)
