Don Giovanni (full title Il dissoluto punito, ossia il Don Giovanni - En. "The Rake punished," K. 527) is a two-act opera composed in 1787 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to an Italian libretto by Lorenzo da Ponte. Its plot deals with the downfall and eventual punishment of the legendary womanizer, known in other works as Don Juan.
Don Giovanni was perhaps considered Mozart's greatest opera in the 19th century, and is still among the ten most-performed operas throughout the world.[1] It was first performed in Prague in 1788, and shortly thereafter premiered (in modified form) in Vienna.
