A hiccup or hiccough is a semi-common involuntary reflex that causes a sudden expulsion of air due to a spasmatic contraction of the diaphragm. It usually continues for a period of time in regular intervals. Largely annoying, there are a number of purported remedies to 'cure' hiccups, including a sudden scare and drinking water.
