"There were 750,000 "unnatural deaths" in Cambodia from 1975-78.....The Nixon [and Ford] administrations predicted a million deaths in Cambodia if US aid were to cease."

-Noam Chomsky, infamously praising the Khmer Rouge for saving hundreds of thousands of lives and for killing virtually no one at all. The prediction actually referred to the likely death toll from a Communist take-over, and asserted that the Khmer Rouge would murder more than one million people if they took power (see: http://www.paulbogdanor.com/chomsky/manufacturing.html) The Khmer Rouge should indeed take the blame for those who were killed by their refusal to allow foreign aid, although before 1975 an aid cut-off would likely have cost only thousands of lives at most, and the Khmer Rouge did nothing to alleviate the famine they artificially cultivated. Chomsky cultists (Wade Frazier, I'm looking at you) still use these easily debunked claims to openly deny the Khmer Rouge genocide, largely thanks to willful ignorance and self-deception. Cambodia's 1975 population of 6.8 million (see: http://www.mekong.net/cambodia/deaths.htm) fell to 4 million by 1979 (see: http://www.paulbogdanor.com/chomsky/labedz.pdf)

"Oh will there be a dreadful bloodbath/ When the Khmer Rouge come to town?/ Aye, there'll be a dreadful bloodbath/ When the Khmer Rouge come to town." -US print and television journalists, singing to the tune of "She Was Poor But She Was Honest," openly mock the very idea of a Communist genocide in Cambodia. See: http://jim.com/canon.htm#ch2

Although leftists like to minimize their comrades' crimes, Communism has been the greatest killer in history:

Communist China: 77,000,000 killed. http://democraticpeace.wordpress.com/2008/11/24/reevaluating-chinas-democide-to-73000000

Soviet Russia: 62,000,000 killed. http://www.hawaii.edu/powerkills/USSR.TAB1.1.GIF

Cambodian Democide State (67-94): 4,800,000 killed.

67-75: 600,000 killed.
Civil War: 250,000 killed. http://www.mekong.net/cambodia/deaths.htm
North Vietnamese invasions; Sihanouk and Lon Nol democide, pogroms and purges; Communist occupations: 300,000-400,000 killed. See Del Vecchio's For the Sake of All Living Things. If anything, this is a conservative estimate because the Communists--Khmer Krahom (Pol Pot's crew), Khmer Viet Minh, Viet Cong, North Vietnam and related insurgent groups controlled 60% of the country for close to a decade prior to the fall of Pnohm Penh. Indeed, Sihanouk declared in 1970 that "Hanoi could easily force the collapse of Cambodia as well as what is left of Laos if it was not faced with American opposition."
75-78: Khmer Rouge Hell-State: 2,750,000 killed.
Investigators have uncovered and examined the remains of 1.1 million Cambodians found in mass graves near Khmer Rouge execution centers whose cause of death has been determined by the investigators to have been execution by the former Khmer Rouge regime. See: http://www.mekong.net/cambodia/deaths.htm and http://www.mekong.net/cambodia/toll.htm Because no more than roughly half and as little as a third of those killed by the Khmer Rouge were executed (the rest having died from other causes like state-created famine, the deliberate withholding of basic necessities by the state, the refusal by the state to allow foreign aid, the abolishing of medicine and hospitals by the state, systematic overwork and slave labor by the state, epidemics caused by the state, and brutal mistreatment by the state), the Documentation Center of Cambodia estimates that the former regime killed or otherwise caused the unnecessary deaths of, between 2.2 and 3.3 million Cambodians.[1] Others estimate 1.5 million may have been executed, which would indicate that 3 million were killed even if executions accounted for half the death toll. Range: 1.1 to 1.5m executed; 1-2m worked or starved to death by the state. From this, I conclude 1.25m were executed and 1.5m worked or starved to death by the state, for a total of 2.75m killed in three years.
78-nineties: Samrin's Gulag: 1,450,000 killed.
Samrin Regime: At least 500,000 (lowest estimate) to 1,500,000 (highest estimate) directly killed by the state in democide. See Rummel: http://www.hawaii.edu/powerkills/SOD.CHAP4.HTM Total: About 1,000,000 (mid-value sum).
Unintended, Excess Famine in Eighties: 250,000 deaths (lowest estimate). See: http://www.mega.nu/ampp/rummel/dbg.tab11.2.gif (Note: Intentional use of famine by the state counted under Samrin regime total.)
Civil War (78-94): 200,000 Cambodians killed. See: http://users.erols.com/mwhite28/warstat3.htm#Cambodian
TOTAL: 4.8 million killed.

NOTE: Cambodia's population was 7.3 or 7.4m when mass killings began. It was about 6.7 or 6.8m when Pol Pot came to power. It was 4m by the time of the 1978 invasion from Vietnam. This means that Cambodia lost close to 3,400,000 people from 70-78, or 46% of the population. Pol Pot wiped out about 41% of his subjects. If Del Vecchio's work on Cambodia is correct, the Vietnamese puppet regime killed over 600,000 of its total 1m in its first 12 months in power, primarily by intentionally prolonging the famine conditions of the Khmer Rouge era for months before allowing international aid to alleviate it (presumably to brutalize the population into acquiescence). This would mean Cambodia lost 4m out of 7.4m from 1970-80, or 55% of the population in 10 years. I am not sure if demographically this could be wholly accurate, unless the population was higher than 7.4 million when the killings began. The population would had to have been about 3.5m in 1980 for this breakdown to be correct, unless the population was 8m in 1968 (in which case an even 50% of the population was slaughtered in a decade of inconceivable horror and tragedy). Nonetheless, the overall estimate of deaths under Samrin is, if anything, rather conservative, when one considers the massive population growth following the overthrow of the Khmer Rouge, as Cambodians sought to make up their lost numbers (see: http://www.hawaii.edu/powerkills/SOD.CHAP4.HTM). According to the UN and Red Cross, 2.25 million more Cambodians would have starved to death due to “the near destruction of Cambodian society under the regime of ousted Prime Minister Pol Pot,” (see: http://www.time.com/time/magazine/printout/0,8816,912511,00.html) if the Khmer Rouge had had even a couple more years in power. They were saved by American and international aid allowed by the Vietnamese.

4.8m is, if anything, conservative. Demographic studies show that Cambodia is "missing" approximately 5 million individuals (it should have been 12 million in 1990, but it was only about 7 million): http://www.hawaii.edu/powerkills/DBG.FIG9.2.GIF. Study assumes 2 million deaths under Pol Pot, with the pop. falling from 7.1m to 5m. However, keeping in mind the range of estimates for the 1990 population and for what it would have been had the trends of 1970 continued, it clearly establishes that not tens of thousands, not hundreds of thousands, not more than one million, not as many as 2 million, but millions of Cambodians are "missing"). From 1980-90, Cambodia's population doubled. Cambodia's population is currently approaching 15 million.

North Korean Slave State: 8,000,000 killed.

Korean war of aggression cost 2.5 million lives (see: http://www.hawaii.edu/powerkills/SOD.CHAP10.HTM), including 500,000 South Korean POWs worked to death in concentration camps. Given the large number of "hostiles" sent to perform hard labor in North Korea (not counting those in the concentration camps)--possibly more than 4 million in 1989 alone according to human rights groups--more than 2 million North Koreans have been killed by the state through slave labor since the end of the war if we assume a death rate of just over 1%. (See: http://www.hawaii.edu/powerkills/SOD.CHAP10.HTM) A further 3 million North Koreans have been starved to death by the state in just the most recent famine. (See: http://www.rense.com/political/koreastarve.htm) South Korean intelligence shows the pop. fell from 25m to 22m: http://users.erols.com/mwhite28/warstat2.htm#North
