The Kuril Islands are chains of 22 primary islands & 32 small islets that are divided into three areas: the Northern Kuril Islands, the Central Kuril Islands & the Southern Kuril Islands. These islands sits on top of a geological composition called, Greater Kuril Ridge. These islands were once belong to Russia. The islands then were seized from Japan at the end of World War II.
