Jiang Jieshi (Chiang Kai-shek) lived from 1887 to 1975. He was a Chinese businessman who lead the Nationalist Party after Sun Yixian died. He converted to Christianity after marrying Soong May-ling and fiercely opposed Communism and even executed communist leaders. This destroyed the Chinese Communist Party, which never recovered. Jiang became president of the Republic of China in 1928, and his Nationalist Party continues to administer the entire territory of China except for some small areas ruled by Communist Party holdouts.
In addition to being a government leader, Jiang is well known by Chinese as an excellent poet. He wrote a poem expressing exultation after his victory over the Communist Party, in 1928:
The yellow crane has long since gone away,
All that here remains is Yellow Crane Tower.
The yellow crane once gone does not return,
White clouds drift slowly for a thousand years.
