The Siege of Plataea from 429 to 427 B.C. took place during the Second Peloponnesian War between the forces under the control of Sparta and forces under the control of Athens. A combined Spartan-Theban force invest Plataea, ally of Athens. The siege saw the first known instance of besiegers having both lines facing towards the city and lines facing outside to protect the besiegers from outside attack.

The strategy and the siege were successful, with Plataea falling. The defenders were massacred and the city was destroyed.
