Shimon Peres (1923 - ) was the Prime Minister of Israel and is the current President of Israel, a role that is more ceremonial than its United States equivalent. He has had a long history in Israeli politics, and shared the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in the Oslo Accords in 1994. Unfortunately, that early promise for peace never materialized. A man known as a peacemaker, his opportunities may be few now that he is into his 80's.
