Slavery vs. Forced Labor

Conservapedia (as well as wikipedia) define slavery as a legal economic system with involuntary servitude, such that the people held in bondage must work for their owner, and can be bought and sold (see Slave trade).

While it is apt to speak of slave labor camps etc., one main aspect of slavery - i.e. that the slaves can be bought and sold - wasn't given in the Soviet Union. That's why this abhorrent system is generally referred to as forced labor.
