Charles I was born November 19, 1600 and died January 30, 1649. He became king of England, Scotland and Ireland in 1625 and did much to worsen the conflicts between the king and Parliament throughout his reign.

After he dismissed Parliament against their will, Puritan elements in Parliament led a successful revolt culminating in his execution.
