-In 2002, Caldwell was picked by the [[San Diego Chargers]] in the second round of the [[2002 NFL draft]]. He played for the Chargers for four seasons as a third or forth wide receiver. As a Charger Caldwell had a total production of 76 receptions for 950 yards and seven touchdowns. In his rookie season he also returned nine kicks for 220 yards. One area that he struggled with was not getting injured. In the 2003 and 2004 seasons, Reche only played in fourteen games total in that period (out of a possible 32 games) due to numerous bodily aliments. However, the 2005 season brought better luck and better health for Reche. In 2005, for the first time since his rookie season, he stayed injury free all year and had his best season up to that point in his career.

-In 2006 Caldwell's contract with the Chargers ran out and he became a free agent. In the first day of the NFL free agency, March 2, 2006, he signed with the [[New England Patriots]] to a three year deal. Due to the fact that the Patriots wide receiver core was depleted from loses in free agency and a trade ([[Deion Branch]] being traded to Settle for a first round pick after a contract dispute) Caldwell quickly inherited the role of number one wide receiver in the Patriots offense. He carried the burden far better then expected. His first season as a Patriots was a breakout one. Not only did he set career records in all of his offense categories - but he also managed to stay relatively injury free playing in 15 games while starting 14 of them. He finished the regular season with 61 receptions for 760 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also had two games over 100 yards receiving.
-In his first three games of playoff action with the Patriots he amassed 16 receptions for 176 yards and 1 touchdown. He also had both his most memorial play - and the play that he would most like to forget of his career in the 2006 playoffs. In the AFC division game vs. his former team, the [[San Diego Chargers]], Reche caught a pass for 49 yards for a first down on a third down and long play in the forth quarter with under two minutes left in the game. The Patriots would end up winning the game on a field goal from the field position gained on the reception. The next week in the AFC Championship game vs. the [[Indianapolis Colts]] Caldwell, dropped two potential touchdown passes. The second drop forced that Patriots to kick a field goal and they ended up losing by four points that a touchdown would have given them.
