Christianity has long recognized the unborn child as a human being, and thereby opposes abortion. Declining mainline churches that have adopted liberal policies on other issues are virtually the only ones that accept abortion today.

Nearly all evangelical churches now oppose abortion.

The Catholic Church opposes abortion, and always has.

The Presbyterian church has split into pro-abortion and pro-life factions. The liberal General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) is the pro-abortion denomination, but even it expresses grave moral concern about abortion.[1]

The Episcopal Church (the Anglican Church in the United States) does not strongly oppose abortion, but has expressed grave concerns about it.
