Eckhardt method consists of rapid screening of plasmid DNA from recombinant colonies through use of electrophoretic analysis.
If the colonies are lysed then the DNA may be applied directly to an agarose gel. Otherwise the colonies may be lysed in the well of the gel.
Plasmids containing insert DNA are larger than the normal plasmid vector molecules, and they can be easily distinguished by differences in electrophoretic mobility.
