Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington (1769-1852) was born in Dublin, Ireland. He was a British soldier and statesman. He is most well known as the general who defeated Napoleon’s army in Spain and Portugal and at the Battle of Waterloo. Wellington served as prime minister of the United Kingdom twice as the leader of the Tory party.
