UVC is a band of ultraviolet radiation with wavelengths shorter than 280 nanometers and is generated by the Sun, in addition to artificial sources such as mercury arc lamps and germicidal lamps.

UVC is extremely dangerous, but it is completely absorbed by ozone and normal oxygen (O2). Since UVC has high energy it is used in the sterilization of food, water and even air.
