Senator Saxby Chambliss, born November 10, 1943 (age 82), was a senator from the state of Georgia. A Republican, he had been in the Senate since 2002, when he defeated Democrat Max Cleland to gain the seat in a controversial race, after which Chambliss was accused of painting his veteran opponent as unpatriotic. His colleague was Johnny Isakson, a fellow Republican, and a former colleague when both were in the House of Representatives, as well.
