Saint Bernadette (1844 â 1879), is a Roman Catholic saint. She reported apparitions of Virgin Mary since she was a young child. She died from tuberculosis at age 35. Bernadette's body remained "incorrupt" (preserved from decomposition), which was evidence for her holiness and the shrine at Lourdes is a major pilgrimage destination. She was placed in a chapel in the Church of St. Gildard August 3, 1925, at the convent where she lived in Nevers, France. She has remained undisturbed and on view in a crystal coffin, more than 130 years after dying.[1]
