-The Democratic-Republican Party was one of the first two American political parties. They opposed strong central government. Noteable Democratic-Republicans were [[Thomas Jefferson]] and [[James Monroe]]. They may also be referred to as Jeffersonian Democrats, Jeffersonian Republicans, or Jeffersonian Democratic-Republicans, as this distinguishes them from the modern [[Democratic Party]] and [[Republican Party]].
