HMS Repulse, a British Battlecruiser, was launched in Clydebank, Scotland, in 1916. In late 1941 the British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, ordered that Repulse and the Battleship HMS Prince of Wales be sent to Singapore to defend against a Japanese attack. On December 10, 1941, off the coast of Malaya, the two ships were attacked and sunk by Japanese bomber aircraft. 840 sailors from the two ships were lost.
